Heading in the Right Direction

Are you heading in the right direction?

‘If you do not know where you are going, any road will get you there’. – Lewis Carroll

Why is direction for your Reliability Journey important?

Where is your reliability journey going? Until you can answer that question, you cannot say that any one route is better than another. Any road will get you to where you want to go.

When you do not have a direction, or a goal, and by not knowing where you are going, it is all the same. You go nowhere.

Whilst it is fair to say Reliability Journeys do not have a final destination, and it is one of continuous improvement, we still need to know what route to take.

  • Which route will provide me with quick returns?
  • Which route will provide me with long term sustainable reliability?
  • Why would one route be a preference over the other?

Without direction, without a goal, how do you pick a direction, choose a road, or plot a course to get “there”?

Pro-Reliability Solutions recently posed the following question at an online conference:

Have you performed a Reliability Maturity Assessment in the last 3 years?

  • Yes – 37%
  • No – 63%

63% of respondents said No.

That is not to say the respondents have no direction or are not on a journey of continuous improvement but reviewing your reliability maturity and benchmarking against good reliability practices will support a plan for continuous improvement. It will help identify the gap to potential, the early wins and what is required for long term sustainability.

Performing a self-assessment against a range of criteria and being honest with yourself will help the organisation move forward. It is a team effort to get on the reliability journey, but once you are on it, the rewards can be amazing.

With so many opportunities, solutions, and alternative strategies to deliver Reliability, we need to plan for whats best for our needs, now and in the future.

Should I be looking at some of these or all of them? :

  • Reliability in design
  • Digital 4.0
  • Reliability in Operations
  • Asset Care
  • Lubrication
  • Spare Parts Management
  • Maintenance Processes
  • Planning and Scheduling
  • Site Strategy
  • Business Performance
  • Leadership

With a structured journey in place, that involves the right people, that is being led from the top, will provide the business with the rewards it requires.
